St. Patrick's Day

Welcome Friends,

We are in the home stretch to spring.  Soon I hope to be visiting nurseries and spending too much on flowers.  As March arrives so does St. Patrick's Day.  Yes, I am Irish, my maiden name is McShane. Though I have found on St. Patrick's Day everyone is a little Irish.  The holiday was always celebrated in my grandparent's and parent's home and is still celebrated in mine. My dear grandparents had ten children, and many grandchildren whom they loved dearly.  The McShane clan will all gather for a family reunion this July. I'm looking so forward to it. The Irish flag will be flying in my yard, under the Red, White, and Blue, of course.

Frank and I celebrated St. Patrick's Day a little early this year, to try out my menu.  I knew it was a winner when my husband said we should do this again on the actual holiday.

Enjoy the photos.

I haven't had a Reuben sandwich in a while, and I surely won't wait so long next time! The Guinness was very good and had a rich and deep flavor.  The potato soup with crumbled bacon and cheddar cheese was amazing.  And, it goes without saying, that anything mint after dinner works for me. That it was green was a plus.

The feather tree on side board is covered with white and green garland, glass shamrocks and of course my pearl garland. On top is a leprechaun hat.

Full view of table.  I love the color green as it seems to work with everything.  I consider it a neutral. I painted the chairs first a raspberry pink, then brown, then grass green and distressed them with a sander. I then sealed them, and recovered the seat cushion with a washed out floral pattern.  I just love them.

This tea set is a mint green.  I purchased it years ago for an outdoor Mother's Day party at my house. O.K I do have a lot of tea sets...and dishes.

Shamrocks for luck.

The green dishes I purchased at a local Kroger years ago.  The salad plate is Spode from the Archive Collection.

The tablecloth is green floral pattern from Home Goods.

Guinness Beer in pilsner glasses.

I have a drop leaf table I keep near the window in the dining room. When not needed it folds down, and its also nice when I just want a cozy spot to dine for two or three.

Soup and Reuben.

Our meal was finished with mint chocolate ice cream, in the sweetest green glass dessert cups.

Feather tree in the window, with snow starting to fall.  Its not quite spring yet.

The chandelier is ready for St. Patrick's Day.

Up close to our feathered friends.

As always thank you so much for stopping by and visiting. I hope you all have a very happy St. Patrick's Day.  Remember I love hearing your comments and will reply to all of them.
I'll leave you with the McShane family toast...

May you live as long as you want

Dreaming of Roses

This is what I dream of in the midst of the winter months.
This was actually the first garden I designed and planted at our home. It has octagonal patio stones and a wrought iron arbor above. The climbing roses are called seven sisters. Under the arbor I keep a small table and chairs. It is very cozy, a perfect spot for a small gathering.

Table set with purple plaid tablecloth...who doesn't love plaid?

Close up of roses. Wish you could smell them too!

I've  have had this chandelier over ten years. It has been rusting a little more every year.
 I just love it!

I've started collecting tea snackers. For those of you who are wondering what that is, it's a paired plate and cup. Indented, the plate holds the cup in place, leaving just enough room for cakes, sandwiches, or appetizers. They are so nice to use in the garden.

These tea snackers are made by Lefton China Company.

The arbor is the entrance to my small garden from the front of the house.
