The Red Oak Trail

Hello Everyone,

It’s been some time since I’ve posted on my blog and I have missed it. I’ve recently retired and have time for more of the fun activities you put off while working.

So…. I have some wooded property in my back yard and decided to have a woodland garden and to create a path to a large oak tree. I first cleared smaller trees and lots of poison ivy. I used what I could find to create the path, and found four more oak trees. With some research I found they were red oaks. So I named the path Red Oak Trail. This is a project that will take years to complete, and that’s what I like most. I have planted over 200 bulbs for spring and have so many ideas. I love being out there, it’s almost like being away from home on a nature trail. My daughter’s birthday is in the fall so…

Welcome to the Grand Opening of Red Oak Trail.

What is an outdoor fall gathering without a bonfire with all the fix-ins for smores.

On the Red Oak Trail- I just lined the path with pumpkins

The brick I found discarded in the woods so I painted the brick red and wrote Red Oak Trail with a black paint marker. Also my pumpkin sign was painted orange it has all the fun things planned listed. Lastly it says Witches Welcome.

This rock was partially showing - I asked my son to dig it out. It was bigger than I thought. I'm really glad he did. Something about rocks, I can't get enough.

Displayed one of my pumpkin lanterns on a bean crate they were giving away at the local farmers market. Spider tucked in the old wood rot.

The scarecrow is the fork in the path. To the left the large oak tree. To the right smaller oaks and a white rambler rose I found while clearing. It should be beautiful this spring.

Near the oak I set up hay bales covered with coffee bean sacks which I also spotted at  the local farmers market.Their nice to have so you don't have hay all over you after sitting for a while. Also tables to hold donuts and and cider. We also had pizza.

Table set-up with some of the donuts and carafes of hot cider.

Rice Crispy Treats dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with white, orange and yellow sprinkles to look like candy corn.Tied them off in bags with a candy corn print. Great party favors.

My Halloween tree. I picked up some sticks I thought would hold my ornaments and then painted them black, bought some assorted ornaments and painted them and sealed them to protect them outside. I put the sticks in a metal pot I have and strung some fairy lights.

Metal pumpkin lanterns hung all around on the trees.

This is my homemade bird nest- I twisted the sticks into a circle and painted them black. I put some sphagnum moss inside and a crow - with a few lights to illuminate at night.

My daughter, her boyfriend and their very good friend and in the tree as owls. They all have birthdays around the same time.  My son is the owl in the tree singing ...Happy Birthday.

I know this looks strange but it is very useful. The top spinner is made of cast iron -it was a seed tiller on my grandparents farm. It would have been one of many used to get the soil ready for planting. I had an old ladder my husband cut it down and put shelves on it. It held plants all summer in my pergola garden, but the woods is where I always wanted it. During the party it held different items I needed at the ready.

My daughter and my son. Everything 💓💓
