Autumn Supper

Knowing friends would be in town for the weekend I wanted to have them over for dinner.  I purchased a pressed wood panel and some blackboard paint at a local hardware store and and created a blackboard of my own.  I just think it is the neatest idea and so versatile.  I put the menu on it and a little artwork too.  The board fit nicely in an easel and was placed  on the side board with some cheese, wine and  homemade caramel apples.

My daughter and I made the caramel apples by first dipping them in caramel and then  in milk and white chocolate. We then rolled them in walnuts, candy corn and sprinkles. The gouda cheese was just perfect with the rosemary and sea salt focaccia bread and black grapes. Dinner was served with merlot wine.

I brought the soup right to the table so everyone could help themselves. I make my own broth and added chicken, potatoes, brown rice and carrots. It was a perfect meal for a cold fall afternoon.
I cut out pumpkins and used them as place cards. Napkins have an acorn embroidered on the bottom. I also placed a leave on everyone's plate. The silver flatware I purchased from replacements ltd. while visiting my sister in North Carolina.
The brie cheese was creamy and mild.
The aged sharp cheddar was loaded with flavor.

We made extra apples and sent one home with everyone.

The white pumpkin has become a favorite of mine.

I love details like these rooster salt and pepper shakers.

This squirrel is actually a canister.
I like to tuck teabags inside for those who don't drink coffee.

The pumpkin muffins with cream cheese frosting were a big hit.

This tray is a  favorite antique find.

Looking into the dinning room through the foyer gives you a feel for the whole room. We had a wonderful time. For me preparing for the party is as much fun as the gathering itself.  I hope this inspires you to have your own Autumn Supper. Will chat soon. Cathy

Sweetest Day

It's getting chilly outside here in Michigan but the garden is still a wonderful place to be. Time for a jacket and hot cider for sure.  As I sit and enjoy the fall air I confess I've already begun to dream of spring and preparing the garden for another season.  Also have some photos of our boathouse this past weekend. My Sweetie and I enjoyed some wine out on our dock for Sweetest Day.  I'm also including pictures of our home.  Will chat with you soon.  Cathy

It was a beautiful day to sit and relax at the boathouse.
